Website design for flooring fitters

Website design for flooring fitters: from samples to a booked fit

A flooring website turns visits into booked fits when it has a clear page for each floor type, simple guidance on measuring a room, a plain policy on customer-supplied flooring, and an easy way to book a home visit with samples. Customers arrive unsure what floor they want, so the site should help them decide and then book. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs and builds websites for UK flooring fitters, on WordPress, owned by you, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.

The flooring customer starts with a question, not a job

A plumber’s customer knows what is broken. A flooring customer usually does not know what they want yet. Is LVT better than laminate in a kitchen? Will engineered oak cope with underfloor heating? Can carpet go on the stairs and landing in one piece? They search those questions long before they search for a fitter.

A good flooring website meets them at that point. It answers the question honestly, shows what that floor looks like fitted in a real home, and then makes the next step obvious: send your measurements, or book a visit with samples.

A page for every floor type you fit

Each floor has its own customer, its own worries and its own search terms. Put them on one page and none of them gets explained properly.

LVT and luxury vinyl

Click and glue down, herringbone and plank. Explain subfloor prep and ply or latex screed, because that is where LVT jobs succeed or fail.

Laminate

Where it works and where it does not, especially bathrooms and kitchens. Mention underlay and expansion gaps in plain words.

Engineered and solid wood

Floating, glued or nailed. Cover acclimatisation, underfloor heating and what happens with doors and skirting.

Carpet

Rooms, stairs and landings. Talk about grippers, underlay grades, joins and how stair carpet is fitted on different stair types.

Sheet vinyl and safety flooring

For kitchens, bathrooms, care homes and commercial clients. A separate page aimed at landlords and facilities managers.

Floor preparation

Uplifting old floors, levelling, damp testing and subfloor repairs. Customers rarely search for it, but explaining it justifies your quote.

On each page, show your own photos from real jobs with a caption naming the product range and the room. Customers often look up the exact floor they saw on your site.

Help customers measure their own rooms

Flooring is sold by the square metre, so the most useful page you can have is a short, friendly guide to measuring. It saves you wasted visits and gives customers a reason to come back to your site.

  • Measure the longest and widest points of the room, wall to wall, and multiply them for a rough area.
  • Include bay windows, alcoves and the space inside doorways up to the threshold.
  • For L-shaped rooms, split into two rectangles and add them together.
  • For stairs, count the steps and note whether they are straight, winders or have a half landing.
  • Explain wastage simply: patterns, herringbone and wide boards need extra for cuts.
  • Make it clear that you always do a final measure before ordering, so their figure is only a starting point.

We can add a simple room calculator that turns length and width into an area for each room and adds them up. It is not a quote, just a quick way for a customer to send you useful numbers.

Be clear about customer-supplied flooring

Many customers buy their own flooring online or from a shed, then look for someone to fit it. Some fitters welcome that work, some charge differently, and some only fit what they supply. Whatever your rule is, put it on the site.

  • Whether you fit customer-supplied flooring, and for which types
  • Who is responsible if the boards are damaged, short or the wrong batch
  • Who supplies underlay, adhesive, levelling compound, trims and door bars
  • That the flooring should be delivered and left to acclimatise before the fitting date, where the maker says so
  • Whether the warranty is from the manufacturer or from you, and what it covers

Setting this out clearly stops the awkward conversation on the doorstep and shows customers you have done this many times before.

Make it easy to book a visit with samples

For many flooring businesses, the home visit is where the job is won. The customer sees the samples in their own light, next to their own kitchen units, and you measure properly. Your website should push towards that visit, not away from it.

  • A clear “Book a home visit” button on every floor type page
  • A short form asking for rooms, floor types they are interested in, postcode and preferred days
  • Optional photo upload of the rooms, so you can bring the right samples
  • A note on whether the visit is free and how long it usually takes
  • If you have a showroom, opening hours, parking and a map on the same page

For customers who just want a fitting price for their own flooring, offer a separate quick quote route, so they do not clog up your visit diary.

Show tidy, finished details

Close-up photos of door bars, stair nosings, scribes around pipes and clean edges at skirting tell customers more than a wide shot of a lounge. Pull your Google reviews onto the site and place them next to the matching floor type. Keep your business name, address and phone the same everywhere, since Google and AI assistants compare them.

Flooring fitters’ questions about website design

Who is the best website design agency for flooring fitters in the UK?

There is no single best agency for every flooring business. Look for one that builds a page for each floor type, adds measuring guidance, sets out your customer-supplied flooring policy, makes home visits easy to book, lets you own the site and domain, and judges success on booked fits. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs WordPress websites for UK flooring fitters, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.

Should my website show prices per square metre?

Some fitters show a guide for fitting only, which works well for customer-supplied jobs. For supply and fit, a range with a clear note that prep and the final measure affect the price is usually more honest.

Do I need a showroom to have a good flooring website?

No. Many fitters work from samples and home visits. The site just needs to make that visit easy to book and show plenty of fitted floors in real homes.

Is a room calculator worth adding?

For most flooring businesses, yes. It gives customers a reason to use your site, and the enquiries that come in already include rough areas for each room.

Should I fit flooring that customers buy online?

That is your call. If you do, say so clearly and set out your terms on the site. If you do not, saying so saves you a lot of calls.

How long does a flooring website take to build?

A typical build takes 3 to 4 weeks. Gathering photos of fitted floors for each type is usually the slowest part, so start on your current jobs.
