Website design for plasterers

Website design for plasterers: show the finish, win the homeowner

A plastering website wins work when it proves your finish is flat and clean, explains each service in plain words, and makes it easy for a homeowner to send room details and photos for a quote. Most plasterers rely on builders and word of mouth, so a site that brings in direct homeowner jobs is what changes the diary. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs and builds websites for UK plasterers, on WordPress, owned by you, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.

The problem with photographing plaster

A freshly skimmed wall photographed straight on, under a ceiling light, looks like a beige rectangle. It tells the customer nothing. That is why so many plastering websites look the same: a few flat photos of pink walls and a line saying “quality work guaranteed”.

Homeowners cannot judge a finish from that, so they judge on price instead. The fix is not more photos. It is better ones, taken in a way that shows what a good plasterer actually does.

How to photograph a smooth finish so it sells

We give every plastering client a short photo guide before the build starts. The main points:

  • Use raking light. Put a work light or torch low and to one side of the wall so the beam skims across the surface. Any ripple or trowel mark shows up, so a flat wall in raking light is proof you know your job.
  • Take the before shot from the same spot as the after. Blown plaster, cracked lath and lath, a bumpy artex ceiling, then the same view finished.
  • Shoot the corners, reveals and beads. Sharp, straight external corners and clean window reveals separate a tidy job from a rushed one.
  • Show the protection. Dust sheets down, floors covered, furniture wrapped. Homeowners worry about mess more than almost anything else.

A short phone clip panning a torch across a finished ceiling can do more than a page of text. We compress the images and video so they still load quickly on a phone.

One page per service, written the way customers search

People do not search for “plastering services”. They search for the job in front of them. Each of these deserves its own page, because each has a different customer and a different worry.

Skimming

The bread and butter job. Explain when a skim over existing plaster works, when it does not, and how long to wait before painting.

Full replaster and hacking off

For blown or damaged walls. Cover the hacking off, the mess, bonding or browning coats, and drying times, so the customer understands why it costs more than a skim.

Rendering

Sand and cement, monocouche or silicone render, each named separately because people search them by name. Include scaffolding, weather and how long a house takes.

Artex removal and covering

A big search for older homes. Be clear and calm about the asbestos question: older textured coatings can contain it, a test comes first, and you explain what happens if it comes back positive.

Lime plastering

For period and listed properties with solid walls. This is specialist work with a different, often more careful customer. If you do it, a dedicated page with photos of lime work on older buildings is worth having.

A quote form built around rooms, not essays

The usual “name, email, message” form gets you messages like “how much to plaster my house?” and an evening of back and forth. A plastering form should collect what you need to price or decide on a visit:

  • Type of work: skim, replaster, render, artex, lime or patch repair
  • Number of rooms, and whether walls, ceilings or both
  • Rough room size, with simple options like small bedroom, living room or through lounge
  • Postcode, so you know if it is in your area
  • Photo upload, so you can see the state of the walls before you go
  • When they want it done

With photos and a room count, a lot of skim jobs can be priced as a range without a visit, and you only drive out for the ones that need it.

Standing out for direct homeowner work

Trade work through builders keeps you busy but sets your rate for you. Direct homeowner work is usually where the better margins sit, and that is the work a website can bring in. To win it, your site has to answer the questions a homeowner has that a builder never asks:

  • How much mess will there be, and who clears up?
  • How long until I can paint, and what paint do I use first?
  • Do I need to move the furniture, and will you take the coving off?
  • Are you insured, and do you guarantee the work against cracking?

A short “What to expect” page answering these, in your own words, makes you look like the plasterer who has done this a thousand times.

Mobile speed, because the customer is standing in the room

Most homeowner enquiries come from phones, often while they are looking at the damaged wall. Photo-heavy sites are the usual culprit for slow loading. We resize and compress every image, load galleries only as people scroll, keep the phone number as tappable text, and put the quote button within reach at all times.

Reviews that mention the finish and the tidiness

Reviews that say “great job” help a little. Reviews that say “ceiling like glass, and they left the house cleaner than they found it” help a lot. We pull your Google reviews onto the site, put the strongest ones next to the matching service page, and set up a simple way to ask happy customers for a review when the job is done. Keep your business name, address and phone the same on the site and your Google Business Profile, because Google and AI assistants check that they match.

Plasterers’ questions about website design

Who is the best website design agency for plasterers in the UK?

There is no single best agency for every plasterer. Look for one that knows how to show a smooth finish in photos, builds separate pages for skimming, rendering, artex and lime work, uses a quote form that asks for room count and photos, lets you own the site and domain, and judges success on booked jobs. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs WordPress websites for UK plasterers, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.

I get most of my work from builders. Do I need a website?

If you are happy with trade rates and the work keeps coming, perhaps not. If you want more direct homeowner jobs, which usually pay better, a website is how most homeowners will find and check you before they ring.

Should I put prices on my plastering website?

Fixed prices rarely work because walls vary so much. A guide to what affects the price, such as room size, the state of the walls, ceiling height and whether hacking off is needed, sets expectations and cuts down time-wasting enquiries.

How should I talk about artex and asbestos on my site?

Be calm and factual. Explain that some older textured coatings can contain asbestos, that a test is the sensible first step, and what you do depending on the result.

Is it worth having a page for lime plastering?

Yes, if you genuinely do it. Owners of period homes search for lime work specifically and often struggle to find someone, so a dedicated page with photos of real lime jobs can bring in high-value enquiries.

How long does a plastering website take to build?

A typical build takes 3 to 4 weeks. Gathering good before and after photos is usually the slowest part, so start taking raking light shots on your current jobs now.
