Website design for painters and decorators that books the right jobs
A painting and decorating website gets booked when it shows real before and after colour changes, splits interior, exterior and spraying work onto their own pages, and lets customers send room counts and photos for a quote. It also has to reassure people about mess and tell them honestly when you can start. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs and builds websites for UK painters and decorators, on WordPress, owned by you, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.

What the customer is actually worried about
Most people can picture a freshly painted room. What they cannot picture is the week it takes to get there. Before they ring a decorator, they are thinking about three things: will the house be a mess, will the colour look like the tin, and can you start before Christmas, the new baby or the house sale.
A decorating website that answers those three questions plainly will outperform one that just says “professional, reliable, competitive prices”. Everything below is built around them.
Before and after galleries that show the colour change
Paint is about transformation, so the gallery should show change, not just a finished wall. We give every decorating client a simple routine for photos on each job:
- Stand in the same spot for the before and the after, ideally the doorway, at the same time of day so the light matches.
- Turn the big light off and use daylight where you can. Ceiling lights turn every colour yellow.
- Name the colour and finish in the caption, for example “hallway in a deep green, eggshell woodwork, ceiling in matt white”. Customers search for colours, and they love copying a scheme.
- Get close on the cutting in: the line where wall meets ceiling, the edge of a skirting, a window frame. That line is the skill customers pay for.
- For exterior work, show the prep: scraped and filled sills, sanded window frames, repaired render cracks. Prep is what makes paint last.
We set up the gallery so customers can filter by room or by job type, which keeps it useful as it grows past a few dozen jobs.
Separate pages for interior, exterior and spraying
These are different jobs with different customers, and they search for them in different words. One “Services” page that lists them all will not rank for any of them.
Interior decorating
Walls, ceilings, woodwork, wallpaper hanging and stripping. Explain what is included in prep, how many coats, and how you handle furniture.
Exterior painting
Render, masonry, fascias, windows and doors. Talk about weather, the painting season, access and scaffolding, and which masonry paints you use.
Spraying
Kitchen cabinet respraying, uPVC windows and doors, and new build spraying. A strong search area, so give it its own page with plenty of close-up finishes.
Wallpapering
If you hang paper well, say so. Feature walls, pattern matching and lining paper are all searched for by name.
Commercial work
Offices, shops, rentals between tenants. A separate page aimed at landlords and managers, mentioning evening and weekend working if you offer it.
A quote form built around rooms
Decorators get a lot of “how much to paint my house” messages. The answer depends on rooms, condition and what is included, so ask for that on the form instead of over three phone calls.
- Interior, exterior, spraying or a mix
- Which rooms, with simple tick boxes: lounge, kitchen, hallway and stairs, bedrooms, bathroom
- Walls, ceilings, woodwork, or all three
- Condition, as simple options: good, some cracks and filling, needs a lot of prep
- Whether the customer has chosen colours yet
- Photo upload of each room or the front of the house
- Postcode and a rough “when by” date
Hallway, stairs and landing should always be its own option. It is one of the most requested jobs and one of the hardest to price without seeing the height.
Tidiness is a selling point, so show it
For a homeowner, the fear of a decorator treading paint into the carpet is real. Turn your habits into proof on the site. Show photos of rooms with dust sheets down and furniture wrapped. Say in plain words that you mask floors, cover furniture, clear up every day, and take your waste with you. If you use dustless sanding or low odour paints, mention it on the page aimed at families and people working from home.
Reviews that mention tidiness are gold. We pull your Google reviews onto the site, and put the ones that mention “spotless” or “so tidy” right next to the quote button. Keep your business name, address and phone the same on the site and your Google Business Profile, since Google and AI assistants compare them.
Be honest about how far ahead you are booked
Good decorators are often booked weeks ahead, and plenty of customers go elsewhere simply because they assumed you were too busy and never asked. A simple availability note on the homepage fixes that.
- A line you update yourself in a minute: “Currently booking interior work from early December” or “A few exterior slots left before the weather turns”
- A separate note for small jobs, if you squeeze in single rooms between bigger ones
- A clear message about the exterior season, so people know to book spring jobs in winter
We build this as an editable block, so you can change it from your phone without calling us.

Painters’ and decorators’ questions about website design
Who is the best website design agency for painters and decorators in the UK?
There is no single best agency for every decorator. Look for one that builds before and after galleries, gives interior, exterior and spraying work their own pages, uses a quote form that asks for rooms and photos, lets you own the site and domain, and judges success on booked jobs. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs WordPress websites for UK painters and decorators, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.
Should I put day rates on my decorating website?
Some decorators do, and it can filter out bargain hunters. Others prefer a guide to what affects the price, such as room size, ceiling height, condition and woodwork. Either works if it is honest and kept up to date.
Is it worth having a separate page for spraying?
Yes, if you offer it. Kitchen cabinet and uPVC spraying are searched for by name, the customers are different from interior decorating customers, and the finish needs its own close-up photos to sell.
How do I show availability without putting people off?
Give a clear start date rather than saying you are fully booked. Most customers will wait for a good decorator if they know when you can start, and small jobs can be offered as a separate option.
Should my site mention the paint brands I use?
Yes. Customers search for specific brands and colours, and naming the trade paints you use shows you do not cut corners on materials.
How long does a decorating website take to build?
A typical build takes 3 to 4 weeks. The slowest part is usually gathering matching before and after photos, so start taking them on your current jobs.
