Website design for gas engineers: safe, clear and easy to book
A gas engineer’s website should put your Gas Safe registration number where nobody can miss it, send anyone who smells gas straight to the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999, and make breakdowns, boiler servicing and landlord gas safety checks quick to book. Get those right and the site does the job a good receptionist would. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs and builds websites for UK gas engineers, on WordPress, owned by you, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.

Three visitors, three very different needs
Almost everyone who lands on a gas engineer’s website is one of three people, and the homepage has to serve all three in the first few seconds.
The person who smells gas
They need the emergency number and simple safety steps, immediately, before anything else on the page.
The person with no heating or hot water
They need a big call button, your area and an honest idea of how soon you can get there.
The landlord or homeowner planning ahead
They need to book a service or a gas safety check online, at a time that suits them, without ringing.
Most gas engineers’ sites mix these together under one “Contact us” link. We split them into three clear routes from the top of every page.
A gas emergency notice that sends people to the right place
If someone smells gas or suspects a leak, their first call should be to the National Gas Emergency Service, not to you. A responsible gas website says so clearly, and it is a sign of a professional business. We add a short, plain notice near the top of the site and on the contact page:
- “If you smell gas, call the National Gas Emergency Service free on 0800 111 999, any time of day.”
- Simple safety steps: open doors and windows, turn off the gas at the meter if you can, do not use light switches or anything that could make a spark, and leave the property if you feel unwell.
- The number set up as a tap-to-call link, so it works in one touch on a phone.
- A line explaining that once the emergency service has made it safe, you can carry out the repair.
Mention carbon monoxide too. Headaches, dizziness or a yellow flame on the hob are signs people search for, and a calm page explaining what to do builds a lot of trust.
Gas Safe registration, front and centre
Gas Safe registration is a legal requirement for anyone working on gas, and customers know to look for it. Hiding your number in the footer wastes one of your strongest trust signals.
- Your Gas Safe registration number in the header or right under the main heading on every page
- The official Gas Safe logo used the right way, next to the number
- A short note telling customers they can check your registration on the Gas Safe Register website, and that they should ask to see your ID card on the day
- The appliance types you are qualified for, such as boilers, cookers, fires or LPG, since the ID card lists these
- Each engineer named with a photo, if there is more than one of you
Manufacturer accreditations and insurance details sit well alongside, but the Gas Safe number comes first.
Breakdowns: a call button that is always there
A customer with a dead boiler in January is not going to fill in a form. They want to ring. On mobile, we keep a “Call now” button fixed to the bottom of the screen on every page, and on the breakdown page we add the things that help them choose you:
- The towns and postcodes you cover, listed in plain text
- Your working hours, and whether you do evenings or weekends
- How call-outs work, including whether there is a call-out charge
- The boiler makes you work on most
- Simple checks first: is the pressure low, has the boiler locked out, is the prepayment meter in credit
Those checks sometimes fix the problem without a visit. That might seem like lost work, but customers remember who helped them, and they call back when it is a real repair.
Landlord gas safety certificates, with reminders
Landlords need a gas safety check every 12 months, and many of them manage several properties with tenants to work around. A booking page built for them is one of the best things a gas engineer’s website can have.
- A landlord booking form asking for the number of properties, the appliances in each, tenant contact details and access notes
- A clear explanation of what the check covers and when they receive the certificate
- An option to sign up for a reminder before the next check is due, so they come back to you rather than searching again
- A separate section for letting agents who book on behalf of several landlords
The reminder sign-up is the part that pays off year after year. Each certificate you issue becomes a booking you can expect the following year.
Boiler servicing you can book online
Homeowners put off servicing because ringing round is a chore. Let them pick a slot. A simple service booking page with a few available days, the boiler make and age, the postcode and a reminder option for next year turns a job people forget into one they book without thinking. Busy months fill up early, so encourage summer bookings for servicing with a short note on the page.
Reviews and local details
Pull your Google reviews onto the site, especially ones that mention turning up quickly, explaining the fault and leaving things clean. Keep your business name, address and phone the same on the site, your Google Business Profile and any directories, because Google and AI assistants check that they match.

Gas engineers’ questions about website design
Who is the best website design agency for gas engineers in the UK?
There is no single best agency for every gas engineer. Look for one that puts your Gas Safe number on every page, adds a clear gas emergency notice, makes breakdown calls one tap away, builds landlord and servicing booking with reminders, lets you own the site and domain, and judges success on booked jobs. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs WordPress websites for UK gas engineers, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.
Why should my site tell people to call 0800 111 999 instead of me?
Because a suspected gas leak needs the National Gas Emergency Service first, and they can attend and make it safe. Saying so is responsible and shows customers you put safety before a call-out.
Where should my Gas Safe number go?
At the top of every page, next to the Gas Safe logo, with a note that customers can check it on the Gas Safe Register website.
Can the site remind landlords when their next gas safety check is due?
Yes. We add a reminder sign-up to the landlord booking form, so landlords can choose to hear from you before the next check is due.
Should I offer online booking for breakdowns?
For breakdowns, a call button works better, because people want to talk to someone. Online booking suits servicing and gas safety checks, which are planned.
How long does a gas engineer’s website take to build?
A typical build takes 3 to 4 weeks, including the booking forms and the emergency notice.
