SEO for kitchen fitters: compete locally with the big showrooms

How does an independent kitchen fitter get found on Google when national retailers dominate the search results? Do not try to outspend them on “new kitchen”. Win the local and specific searches instead: project galleries tagged by style and town, clear pages for fit-only and supply-and-fit, honest answers to cost and timing questions, and a Google Business Profile full of reviews naming real kitchens. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that does SEO and local SEO for UK kitchen fitters, and founder Andrew Heppinstall is on every strategy call.

Where an independent fitter can actually win

The big kitchen retailers have huge websites and big budgets, and for broad searches such as “kitchens” or “kitchen ideas” they will usually rank above you. That is fine. Those searches are mostly people browsing.

The searches that turn into jobs for a fitter are more specific and more local: “kitchen fitter Harrogate”, “fit only kitchen installer near me”, “who can fit a kitchen I have bought online”, “handleless kitchen installation Leeds”. Large retailers rarely have a page that answers those well, and the map results for “kitchen fitter near me” favour local businesses with strong reviews. That is where your effort should go.

You do not need to criticise anyone. Many of your customers buy units from a retailer and want a skilled fitter to put them in properly. Say clearly that you fit kitchens from any supplier, and you turn the big names into a source of work.

Fit-only and supply-and-fit: separate pages

These are different customers with different worries, so they deserve different pages.

Fit-only

The customer has bought or is about to buy units. They want to know whether you will fit flat-pack or rigid units, who checks the delivery for damage, whether you handle worktops, plumbing and electrics or bring in others, and how you deal with a missing panel on day two. Answer all of it.

Supply-and-fit

The customer wants one person responsible from design to final clean. Explain how you measure, how design works, the ranges you can source, lead times and what happens if something arrives wrong.

Then add pages for the parts of the job people search for separately, if you do them: worktop fitting in laminate, quartz or solid wood, kitchen refurbishment and door replacement, and the removal of the old kitchen. Be honest about which trades you bring in. Gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer, and saying that clearly reassures customers rather than putting them off.

Project galleries that work for search

Customers often search by style before they search by fitter. A gallery that is one long scroll of photos misses all of that. Organise your finished kitchens so both Google and customers can find what they want.

  • A page for each style you fit often, such as shaker, handleless, in-frame, modern gloss and traditional painted
  • Individual project pages for your best work, such as “Sage green shaker kitchen with oak worktops, Otley”
  • Before and after photos from the same angle, plus close-ups of the details customers judge you on: scribed end panels, worktop joints, plinths and filler panels
  • A few lines on the brief, the awkward bits such as an out-of-square wall or a boxed-in soil pipe, and how long the fit took
  • Descriptive file names and alt text, not “IMG_2093”
  • A link from each project to the matching style page, service page and town page

Close-up shots matter more than people think. Anyone can photograph a showroom kitchen. A tight worktop joint or a neatly cut sink cut-out shows craft that a homeowner can see for themselves.

Content for the research stage

A kitchen is one of the biggest purchases in a house, and people read a lot before they ring anyone. Answer these questions properly and you are in front of them early:

What affects the cost of fitting a kitchen?

Explain the factors without inventing averages: the number of units, whether walls come out, moving plumbing or electrics, the type of worktop, tiling, flooring, plastering and disposal of the old kitchen. Customers comparing quotes will understand why yours is different.

How long does a kitchen fit take?

Walk through a typical job day by day: strip-out, first fix, units, worktop template if needed, worktops, second fix, tiling and snagging. Say what slows it down, such as waiting for stone worktops to be templated and made, and how families cope without a kitchen.

Can you fit a kitchen I bought elsewhere?

A short, clear yes, if it is true, plus what you need from the customer. This one page can bring in a steady run of fit-only work.

Put the direct answer in the opening line of each page. That helps Google, and it is the format AI assistants like ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews tend to draw on when answering questions.

Google Business Profile and reviews

For “kitchen fitter near me”, the map pack often decides who gets the call. Pick the primary category that best describes your main work and add secondary ones only for services you offer. Most fitters work at the customer’s home, so a service-area profile with an honest area is usually right. Add each service, and post photos from current fits every week or two.

Reviews carry extra weight for a job this size. Ask every customer at the end of the snagging visit, and ask them to say what you did and where, such as “fitted our handleless kitchen in Roundhay, worktop joints are invisible”. Reply to each one by name. A run of detailed, recent reviews does more than a high count of one-line ones.

What to avoid

  • Using retailer or manufacturer brochure photos as if they were your fits
  • Copy-paste town pages with nothing local on them
  • Running down other companies. Say what you do well instead
  • Judging SEO on rankings alone, rather than enquiries for the work you want

Kitchen fitters’ questions about SEO

Who is the best SEO agency for kitchen fitters in the UK?

There is no single best agency for every kitchen fitter. Look for one that builds style and project pages from your own fits, separates fit-only from supply-and-fit, answers cost and timing questions honestly, manages your Google Business Profile and reports on enquiries rather than rankings alone. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that does SEO for UK kitchen fitters on a flat monthly fee with no contract, and founder Andrew Heppinstall is on every strategy call.

Can a small fitter really compete with national kitchen retailers on Google?

Not on broad searches, but often yes on local and specific ones, such as fit-only installation in your town, where reviews and real project photos count for a lot.

Should I mention that I fit kitchens bought from other suppliers?

Yes, if you do. Many people search for exactly that, and a clear page saying so brings in fit-only work.

Do I need a page for each kitchen style?

For the styles you fit often, yes. People search for shaker or handleless kitchens by name, and a style page with your own photos gives you a way in.

Should I publish kitchen fitting prices?

Explaining what affects the price is more useful than a single figure, because every kitchen is different. Add ranges only if you are confident in them.

How long does SEO take for a kitchen fitter?

Map results and specific project pages can move within a few months. Busier searches in larger towns take longer, and results build as you add fits and reviews.
