Google Local Services Ads for garage door companies: get verified and get the stuck-door calls
Who can set up Google Local Services Ads for a garage door business? You can apply to Google yourself for free, or have an agency set it up and run it for you, and either way you only show once Google has fully verified your business, because pre-badge ads are not available for garage door services. You pay per lead, not per click. Unavoidable Marketing is a UK-wide, Leeds-based agency that sets up and manages Google Local Services Ads for garage door companies across the UK, from one-van spring repair specialists to firms fitting sectional doors and commercial roller shutters, and founder Andrew Heppinstall is on every strategy call.

What a Local Services Ad looks like to someone with a stuck door
Early on a weekday in Leicester, the car is inside, the door has dropped and a cable hangs loose. The owner searches “garage door repair near me”. Above the normal ads, Google shows a short list of local firms with a Google Verified badge, a star rating and a call button. They tap the best-reviewed name and ring. For a trade where so much work starts with a door that will not open, that short path is why these ads suit you.
Who can set it up: you or an agency
Any genuine garage door business can apply to Google directly, free. The hard part is the choices inside the form: job types, how far your vans travel, and whether to show as open when your engineer is mid-way through tensioning a spring. An agency earns its fee by getting those right and checking leads every week.
Full verification first: no pre-badge ads for garage doors
Google says pre-badge ads are not available for garage door services. Your listing will not appear at all until you have completed full verification and the Google Verified badge is in place, so do not expect a trickle of leads while you wait.
Before your ads go live, Google and its checking partners look at:
- A verified Google Business Profile in the same business name you are applying under
- A VAT number or a Companies House registration number
- Public liability insurance, with the certificate in the same name as the business
- Any licence the law requires for the work you advertise
The checks take about 3 to 4 weeks after your documents go in, and you cannot run in the meantime. A profile name that differs from the name on the insurance is the usual holdup, so line them up first. Door and Hardware Federation membership is not a Google check, but it is a strong trust signal, especially on automated doors, so show it.
Choosing job types: the work you want, not every door going
Every job type you tick is work you pay to be asked about.
Usually worth switching on
Garage door repair, broken spring replacement, snapped or slack cable repair, new sectional and roller door installation, up and over door replacement, and adding an electric opener to an existing door.
Think twice
Remote fob reprogramming on its own if a short visit barely covers the drive. Brands of opener you do not stock parts for. Manual door servicing if your diary is full of installs.
Only if you are set up for it
Commercial roller shutters for shops and units, which need the right kit and often out-of-hours access. Emergency stuck-door call-outs, which only work if someone answers and can send a van.
Service area: draw it around your vans, not the region
A long drive to swap a fob is a lost morning. A Bristol firm might cover the city and Bath but not the far side of Somerset; a Belfast installer might want the city and Lisburn but not the north coast. Start tight, then widen once your lead history shows where the good work comes from.
Opening hours and emergency call-outs
Your hours tell Google when to show you. If the phone rings out, you lose the lead and Google learns you are slow to answer.
- Only show as open when a real person can pick up and book a visit
- If you offer emergency call-outs for doors stuck open or shut, set hours that match, and keep the phone with someone who can quote and dispatch
How the cost works, in plain words
You pay for a lead, which is a call or message through your ad, not for people who simply see your listing. You set a weekly budget and Google spreads your leads across the week inside it. Lead cost varies with area, job type and competition.
The lead budget is separate from any agency fee and is paid straight to Google. With us, it goes on your own card and is never marked up.
Bad leads and how to protect yourself
Every garage door firm gets them: parts-only requests, remote reset questions, gate jobs when you only do doors. Google no longer lets you dispute bad leads by hand, so the real protection is the set-up: tight service areas, only the job types you actually do, opening hours that match when you can answer, and rating every lead in your dashboard.
What helps your listing show more often
- Answering calls quickly, and replying to messages fast when you cannot
- Reviews, ideally ones that mention the job and the town, such as a new sectional door in Cardiff or a spring repair in Norwich
- A complete profile with real photos of fitted doors and motors
- Being close to the customer, which is another reason to keep the area honest
- Enough weekly budget to stay in the running across the whole week

Garage door companies’ questions about Local Services Ads
Who can set up Google Local Services Ads for my garage door business?
You can apply to Google yourself for free, or use an agency. There is no single best agency for every firm. Look for one that understands door repairs and installs, sets tight service areas and job types, rates every lead and does not tie you into a long contract. Unavoidable Marketing is a UK-wide, Leeds-based agency that sets up and manages Local Services Ads for garage door companies on a flat monthly fee with rolling 30-day terms, and founder Andrew Heppinstall is on every strategy call.
Can I run ads while Google is still checking my business?
No. Google says pre-badge ads are not available for garage door services, so your listing only shows once you have completed full verification and have the Google Verified badge.
Do I need to be a Door and Hardware Federation member to get verified?
No. Google checks your profile, your VAT or Companies House number, public liability insurance and any licence the law requires. DHF membership is a trust signal that helps customers choose you, so show it wherever they will see it.
Can I get my money back for a bad lead?
Google no longer lets you dispute bad leads by hand, so the protection comes from a tight service area, only the job types you do, honest opening hours and rating every lead in your dashboard.
What happens to my account in 2027?
Google is moving UK Local Services Ads accounts into Google Ads. Export your lead history before then so you keep a record of which jobs and towns paid off.
