SEO for removal companies: be the firm people find when they start planning a move
SEO for a removal company comes down to a strong Google Business Profile, a proper page for each service you offer, honest local pages for the towns you really collect from, and reviews that name the move and the town. Add consistent business details across directories and clear, answer-first pages, and you give Google and AI assistants good reasons to show you. Unavoidable Marketing is a UK-wide, Leeds-based agency that does SEO and local SEO for removal companies across the UK, and founder Andrew Heppinstall is on every strategy call.

Why removals SEO is different
People do not search for a removal firm on impulse. They start weeks or months ahead, often the day an offer is accepted, and they read. They compare reviews, look for insurance, check whether you do packing, and ask friends. By the time they ring for a survey, they have usually made a shortlist.
That long research window is good news for SEO. Every page, review and directory listing is a chance to make the shortlist before the customer has even picked up the phone.
Google Business Profile: your shop window in the map
For “removals near me” and “removal company Norwich”, the map results come first. Your Business Profile decides whether you appear there.
- Choose the main category that matches removals, and add others only for work you really do, such as storage
- Use your real depot address, and set your service area to the towns you collect from
- List each service: house removals, packing, office moves, storage, long-distance moves, man and van
- Add photos of your own vehicles, crews, wrapped furniture and storage containers, and keep adding them through the year
- Post when you have news: new vehicles, a storage facility, spare dates in a quiet month
- Answer every review, good or bad, in a calm, helpful way
Service pages that answer real questions
One “Services” page listing everything does not rank well and does not help a nervous customer. Each service needs its own page, written for the person asking.
House removals
How the survey works, what happens on moving day, how you protect furniture and floors, and what happens when completion is delayed.
Packing services
Full packing, part packing and fragile only. What materials you use, how far ahead you pack, and whether you unpack at the other end.
Office moves
Weekend and evening moves, IT and server handling, crate hire and how you keep a business running on Monday morning.
Storage
Containerised or warehouse, how access works, and how storage helps when a chain breaks or dates do not line up.
Long-distance moves
The routes you run, how you plan overnight moves, and whether you share loads or run dedicated vehicles.
Man and van
Small flats, single items and student moves. Clear about what the service includes so nobody expects a full crew.
Each page should start with a short, direct answer, then the detail. Show BAR membership and goods-in-transit insurance where you have them, because those are the trust signals customers look for.
Local pages done properly
Many removal sites have hundreds of town pages with the same text and a new name dropped in. Google sees through that, and so do customers. A local page earns its place when it says something true about working in that town.
Build pages for the towns you actually serve from your depot. A firm based in Swansea might have real pages for Swansea, Neath, Llanelli and Cardiff, each with jobs done there, local reviews, and practical notes such as parking for a large vehicle on terraced streets or access to flats in the city centre. For long-distance work, write route pages only for routes you run, such as Belfast to Glasgow, and explain how those moves work.
Reviews that name the job and the town
“Great service” helps a little. “The crew packed our whole house in Leicester and had us into our new place in Nottingham by teatime” helps far more. It tells Google and future customers what you do and where.
Ask for reviews the day after the move, when the customer is relieved and grateful. Send a direct link, and ask them to mention what you did for them and where they moved. Never offer anything in return for a review.
Citations and NAP consistency
NAP means name, address and phone number. They should be identical everywhere your business appears: your website, your Business Profile, Companies House, the BAR directory if you are a member, removals comparison sites, Yell and local directories. Old addresses from a previous depot or an old mobile number confuse Google and AI assistants about who you are. We find and tidy them.
Schema that describes your business
Schema is code that tells search engines what your page is about in a structured way. Schema.org has a MovingCompany type, which we use with your name, address, phone, service area, opening hours and services. We add FAQ and review markup where it is genuine. It does not guarantee anything, but it removes guesswork.
AI search: being named by ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews
More people now ask AI assistants things like “who is a good removal company in Aberdeen” or “what should I ask a removals firm before booking”. These tools build answers from sources they can read and trust. That means clear, answer-first pages, consistent business details across directories, reviews, mentions on other reputable sites such as local guides and trade directories, structured data, and a named person behind the business.
Nobody can guarantee you will be named. What we can do is make sure everything an assistant might read about your firm is accurate, clear and easy to quote.

Removal companies’ questions about SEO
Who is the best SEO agency for removal companies in the UK?
There is no single best agency for every removals firm. Look for one that understands the long research window before a move, builds genuine service and local pages rather than copied ones, works on reviews and directory listings, and reports on booked moves rather than rankings alone. Unavoidable Marketing is a UK-wide, Leeds-based agency that does SEO and local SEO for removal companies across the UK on rolling 30-day terms, and founder Andrew Heppinstall is on every strategy call.
How can I compete with removals comparison sites?
Comparison sites are strong on broad searches, but your Business Profile, reviews and local pages can win the map results and town searches. A clear site also gives customers a reason to call you direct instead of filling in a form that goes to several firms.
Should I have a page for every town I deliver to?
No. Build pages for the towns you collect from and the routes you run regularly, with real content for each. Thin pages with only the town name changed rarely help and can drag the whole site down.
Does BAR membership help my SEO?
It helps as a trust signal and as a listing on a reputable directory. Show it clearly on your site and profile if you are a member, and keep your details on the directory matching everywhere else.
How long does SEO take for a removals firm?
Profile and review work can show changes fairly quickly, while service and local pages build over months. Starting before your busy season gives the work time to pay off when the enquiries matter most.
Can you make ChatGPT recommend my removal company?
Nobody can guarantee it. We make your details, reviews and pages clear, consistent and easy for AI assistants to read and trust, which gives you a better chance of being named.
