Website design for tilers

Website design for tilers: let the close-ups do the selling

A tiling website wins work when its photos are close enough to show straight cuts, flat surfaces and even grout lines, when each type of job has its own page, and when the quote form asks for the area and photos up front. Customers pick a tiler on detail, so the site has to show detail. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs and builds websites for UK tilers, on WordPress, owned by you, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.

Why a wide shot of a bathroom does not sell tiling

Most tilers’ galleries are full of the same photo: a finished bathroom taken from the doorway. It could be anyone’s work. The things that separate a good tiler from a cheap one are small, and a doorway shot hides them.

A homeowner who has been burned before knows what to look for. Lippage between large format tiles. A grout line that wanders. A cut around a toilet pan that is a mess of filler. A tiled step where the nosing does not line up. Your website should answer those worries, and the way to do that is to get closer.

A gallery built from close-ups

For every finished job, we ask our tiling clients for one wide shot and three or four tight ones. The tight ones are the proof.

  • Cuts around awkward details: pipes, pan collars, sockets, window reveals and door frames. A neat hole cut in porcelain says more than any line of copy.
  • A straight edge laid on a large format floor, or a shot along the surface at floor level, showing there is no lippage.
  • Grout lines running true across a whole wall, especially where a feature tile or niche breaks the pattern.
  • Mitred external corners and trims, so the customer sees you can finish an edge without a chunky plastic strip if they want.
  • Pattern work: herringbone, chevron or a set-out that centres on a window. Show the set-out marks during the job if you can.
  • Prep shots: a tanked wet room, levelled screed, backer board fixed off. This is the work that is hidden later and the reason good jobs last.

We group the gallery by job type rather than one long scroll, and caption each photo in plain words: “600 by 1200 porcelain, levelled with a clip system, 2mm joints”. Captions like that also give Google and AI assistants something real to read.

One page for each kind of tiling job

People search for the job, not the trade. Someone with a cracked kitchen floor and someone planning a wet room are not the same customer, and they should not land on the same page.

Bathroom and shower tiling

The core job. Cover stripping old tiles, boarding, tanking around the shower area and how long the bathroom is out of use.

Wet rooms

A specialist page. Explain falls to the drain, tanking systems and why preparation decides whether it leaks in five years.

Kitchen floors and splashbacks

Different customer, often mid-renovation. Mention working around fitted units and timing with the kitchen fitter.

Large format porcelain

A strong search term. Explain the extra prep, levelling and handling these tiles need, so the customer understands why it costs more.

Natural stone

Marble, slate and limestone need sealing and care. A page here attracts careful customers with bigger budgets.

Outdoor porcelain and patios

If you do it, give it a page. Talk about bases, drainage and frost, because outdoor jobs fail for different reasons.

A quote form that asks for the area

“How much to tile my bathroom?” is the message every tiler gets and cannot answer. A better form gets you most of what you need in one go, without asking the customer to do maths they do not know how to do.

  • Job type: bathroom walls, shower area, wet room, kitchen floor, splashback, other
  • Rough area in square metres, as bands: under 5m2, 5 to 10m2, 10 to 20m2, over 20m2, or “not sure”
  • A short tip on measuring: length times height for each wall, length times width for floors
  • Tile size if known, since large format and mosaic both take longer
  • Whether old tiles need removing
  • Photo upload of the room as it is now, plus any photos of the tiles they have chosen
  • Postcode and when they want it done

The “not sure” option matters. If you force a number, people guess or leave. With a band and three photos, you can usually tell whether it is a quick quote or a visit.

Say who supplies the tiles, clearly

The tile supply question causes more arguments than almost anything else in tiling. Customers turn up with tiles from a showroom, short by a box, or from two different batches. Put your policy on the site in plain words so it is settled before you arrive.

  • Whether you supply tiles, the customer supplies, or both are fine
  • If the customer supplies, that they should order extra for cuts and breakages, and keep everything from the same batch
  • Who supplies adhesive, grout, trims, levelling compound and tanking, which most tilers prefer to buy themselves
  • What happens if tiles arrive damaged or run short mid-job

The details that make a tiler look trustworthy

Tiling is often the last trade in a renovation, and the customer is tired of builders. Show them you are tidy and reliable. A “what to expect” section covering dust from cutting, how you protect baths and floors, how long grout needs before the shower is used, and how you leave the room. Add your insurance, any manufacturer warranty you can offer on tanking systems, and a line about how you handle snagging.

Reviews that mention the detail are worth more than reviews that say “great job”. We pull your Google reviews onto the site and put the ones about wet rooms on the wet room page, and so on. Keep your business name, address and phone the same everywhere, as Google and AI assistants check that they match.

Tilers’ questions about website design

Who is the best website design agency for tilers in the UK?

There is no single best agency for every tiler. Look for one that builds galleries around close-up proof of cuts and levelling, gives each job type its own page, uses a quote form with area and photos, lets you own the site and domain, and measures success on booked jobs. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs WordPress websites for UK tilers, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.

Should I put a price per square metre on my website?

A single rate often backfires, because prep, tile size, pattern and removal change the job a lot. A short guide to what affects the price works better, and the area bands on the quote form help you give a range quickly.

What if the customer has already bought their tiles?

That is common, so say on the site that you are happy to fit customer supplied tiles, and explain what they need to know: order extra, keep the same batch, and check boxes on delivery.

Do I need a separate page for wet rooms?

Yes, if you do them. Wet room customers search specifically, worry about leaks, and want to see tanking and falls done properly, so a dedicated page with prep photos is far more convincing than a line on a bathroom page.

How many photos do I need before the site goes live?

A handful of strong jobs with close-ups is better than fifty wide shots. Start taking detail photos on every job now, and the gallery can grow over time.

How long does a tiling website take to build?

A typical build takes 3 to 4 weeks. Gathering good close-up photos is usually the slowest part, so it helps to start on your current jobs.
