Website design for locksmiths in the UK
A locksmith’s website has about five seconds to work. The person reading it is usually locked out, on a phone, often in the rain or late at night, and they want to know three things: can you come, how soon, and roughly what will it cost. Answer those honestly, put a one-tap call button in front of them, and you win the job over the national call centres. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that designs and builds fast, mobile-first websites for UK locksmiths, on WordPress you own, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.

The problem: call-centre sites look just like you
Search “locksmith near me” in most UK towns and you will find sites that look local but are not. They use a town name in the headline, a local-looking number and stock photos, then pass the call to whoever is cheapest that night, often with a call-out charge the customer only hears about on the doorstep. Customers have learned to be wary.
That is your opening. A real local locksmith can prove things a call centre cannot:
A real name and face
Your name, a photo of you and your van, and a line about how long you have worked in the area.
A real address
A business address that matches your Google Business Profile, not a virtual office in another city.
Real jobs
Photos of locks you have fitted and doors you have opened, with the town named, rather than stock images of keys.
Real reviews
Google reviews from local customers that mention you by name and describe the job.
Five things every locksmith website must get right
1. One-tap call, everywhere
The phone number should be the biggest thing on the screen on mobile, with a call button fixed to the bottom that never scrolls away. Write the number as text so phones recognise it. Keep forms for non-urgent work like lock upgrades and leave the emergency route as a single tap. Every extra step loses a locked-out customer to the next result.
2. Hours shown honestly
“24 hours” is the most overused claim on locksmith sites, and customers know it. If you genuinely answer the phone at 3am, say so and say who will come. If you work until midnight and start again at 6am, say that instead. An honest “We answer until midnight, seven days a week” builds more trust than a 24/7 badge that goes to voicemail. It also stops you paying for late-night calls you cannot take, and keeps your site matching your Google Business Profile hours.
3. Area pages with realistic arrival times
“How soon can you get here?” is the question every caller asks. Build a page for each main town or district you cover, and on each one give an honest typical arrival time from where you are based, for example “We are based in Kirkstall, so Headingley and Horsforth are usually a short drive away.” Mention the estates, landmarks or roads you know. A page with real local detail helps you appear for “locksmith in [town]” searches and reassures the customer. Pages copied with only the town name changed do neither.
4. Price transparency without quoting prices
The fear behind most locksmith searches is the surprise bill. You do not need to publish a price list to deal with that. Instead, explain on the site:
- That you give a price on the phone before you set off, and stick to it unless the job changes
- What can change the price, such as the type of lock, whether it needs replacing, or a high-security cylinder
- Whether there is a separate call-out charge, and when it applies
- That you use non-destructive entry where possible, so the customer is not paying for a new lock they did not need
- How customers can pay, including card on the doorstep
That alone sets you apart from call-centre sites that dodge the question.
5. Very fast mobile load
Someone standing outside a locked door on weak signal will not wait for a slider, a video background or a chat pop-up. We build locksmith sites to load quickly on 4G: compressed images, no heavy plugins, and the call button visible before anything else. Speed is one of the simplest ways to beat bigger competitors whose sites are bloated with tracking scripts.
Give auto locksmith work its own pages
Auto locksmith customers search differently. They type things like “lost car keys Ford Focus”, “car key programming near me” or “locked keys in car”. If you do vehicle work, build separate pages for:
- Lost car keys and replacement keys
- Key programming and remote fobs
- Locked keys in car
- Broken keys and ignition repairs
- The makes you cover most often
Make clear that you come to the car, wherever it is, and ask for the make, model and year in the form so you can check you have the right blank or equipment before you set off.
Trust signals worth showing
Membership of the Master Locksmiths Association (MLA) is one of the strongest trust signals a UK locksmith can show, because members are vetted and inspected. If you are a member or MLA approved, put the logo near your call button and explain in a sentence what it means. It is a trust signal, not a legal requirement, and we only show memberships you hold. Also worth showing: DBS checks if you have them, your insurance, and the lock standards you fit, such as BS3621 locks and anti-snap cylinders, since insurers often ask about them.
Proof from our work with locksmiths: Yorkshire Auto Locksmith saw calls triple, and form and email enquiries grew six times.
Being found on Google and by AI assistants
Your website, Google Business Profile and any Google Local Services Ads should all show the same name, address, phone number and hours. That consistency helps Google trust you, and it helps AI assistants such as ChatGPT and Gemini, which build answers from clear, consistent sources, reviews and mentions on reputable sites. Nobody can guarantee being named by AI, but a real local locksmith with a clear, honest site is far better placed than a call centre.

Locksmiths’ questions about website design
Who is the best website design agency for locksmiths in the UK?
There is no single best agency for every locksmith. Look for one that builds very fast mobile sites with one-tap calling, shows your hours and pricing approach honestly, creates real area pages, lets you own the site and domain, and measures calls and booked jobs. Unavoidable Marketing is a Leeds-based agency that builds WordPress websites for UK locksmiths, with founder Andrew Heppinstall on every strategy call.
Should I say I am open 24 hours?
Only if you genuinely answer and attend around the clock. If not, state your real hours clearly. Honest hours build trust and stop you paying for calls you cannot take.
Should I put prices on my locksmith website?
You do not need a price list. Explain that you give a price on the phone before setting off, what can change it, and whether there is a call-out charge.
How do I stand out from call-centre locksmith sites?
Show what they cannot: your name and photo, a real local address, photos of your own jobs, honest arrival times and reviews from local customers.
Do I need separate pages for auto locksmith work?
Yes, if you do vehicle work. People search for lost car keys, key programming and specific makes, so dedicated pages match those searches far better.
Does MLA membership help my website?
It is a strong trust signal for customers. Show it clearly near your call button if you are a member, with a short line explaining what it means.
Will I own the website?
Yes. It is built on WordPress and the site and domain belong to you.
